MAGNET FOCUS: Windom Spanish Dual Immersion offers an enriched educational experience in which students achieve academically while attaining proficiency in Spanish and English. We advance curriculum through content, culture, music and art to prepare students for a multilingual, multicultural and global society. Every two years, fourth- and fifth-grade students travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico, where they are able to fully realize the gift of being bilingual and biliterate!

WE OFFER: Spanish and English Dual Immersion • Band • School Uniforms • Windom Enrichment Resource Center • Travel to a Spanish-Speaking Country for Fourth- and Fifth-Graders (fee-based, with fundraising support)

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Responsive Classroom instruction, a social and academic curriculum that includes morning meetings, rules and logical consequences, guided discovery, academic choice, classroom organization and family communication strategies
  • Band one day a week
  • Community center with gymnasium; media/technology center with networked iMac computer lab; internet access in every classroom; and science lab
  • Self-paced computerized reading and math programs offer immediate results and regular monitoring of academic goals, with entire classroom capability in English and/or Spanish
  • Strong parent involvement in production of annual events such as the Noche de Gala, Carnival, A Taste Of Windom and Cultural Night
  • Art Adventures (Minneapolis Institute of Arts); artist-in-residence programs
  • “Love Makes A Family” anti-bias book curriculum
  • Tutorial services in reading and math
  • School uniforms
  • Windom Enrichment Resource Center (WERC) hostse sports, dance, cooking, mosaic, Girl Scouts, theater, art/painting, robotics, one-on-one tutoring and seminars for parents

EXTENDED-DAY ACTIVITIES: Minneapolis Kids bilingual child care; student council; homework help; Girls in Engineering, Math and Science (GEMS); Guys in Science and Engineering (GISE); tutoring services in reading and math; EiE (Engineering is Elementary); other cultural enrichments; WERC provides adult and student courses for all Windom community members
