  • Our three-year curriculum offers a rigorous academic program with differentiation for advanced learners built into all team classes
  • All students learn a World Language: Arabic, Spanish or Ojibwe
  • Math and reading offerings from gifted/advanced to remediation programs, including Read 180, Reader's Workshop and Focus Math
  • Three computer labs, five portable laptop/iPad carts, Promethean boards and document cameras in every classroom
  • Experiential learning emphasis includes multiple field trips in every grade, with an international trip for eighth-grade students and an overnight trip to the Wolf Ridge Environmental Center for seventh-grade students every year
  • School plays and music concerts in the fall and spring, including Project SUCCESS
  • Arts integration through artist-in-residence programs incorporated into academic instruction

MIDDLE SCHOOL: Sanford Middle School is committed to doing whatever it takes to provide a supportive and academically challenging experience for all students. Sanford parents are active and supportive members of our school community. Students loop on a team with the same group of students throughout their three years at Sanford. Looping builds strong and caring relationships within teams that include four teachers (English, Math, Science and Social Studies). English and Social Studies teachers loop all 3 years with students. Arts, World Language, PE/Health and Design are an integral part of our curriculum, providing a solid foundation for college-preparatory high school programs, including Roosevelt High School's International Baccalaureate (IB) program and South High School's Liberal Arts program.

EXTENDED-DAY ACTIVITIES: At different times of  the year we offer the following activities: Video game creation, cheerleading, Anime, science exploration, Everyday Leaders, Improv, band studio, world video, chess, homework help, program assistant, coffee cart business, glee club, Inside/ Out Dance, Global Quest. Real Men Read,San0frd Architects, boys group, Intergeneration Drama, soccer, yoga, biking, LAti@s Unid@s, oking, Job Corps, college mentoring, Art Adventures, yearbook, knitting, Mathcounts, debate, Native Indigenous Freedom School. step,Girls INC., circle, creative writing, GISE/ GEMS, GSA, Lego Robotics, and basketball.

Magnet Schools

School Information

  • Sanford is currently under construction as part of a $19 million expansion project that includes a new high-school-sized gym and 12 new classrooms. Enrollment currently at 800; projected to increase to 960 over several years.
  • Citywide programs currently include DCD and ASD, added PHD in 2015
