PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Environmental Focused Curriculum: STEM class- (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). Two outdoor classrooms, plant grow labs, Foss Science kits, Camp Widjiwagan Ely, MN (4th grade), Grand Marais camping trip (5th grade) Minnehaha Monday walks to school Walkathon and Project ROT  (Reduce Our Trash) lunchroom waste recycling program.
  • DNR Designated School Forest (3 MN Biomes: coniferous, deciduous and prairie are located on school grounds.)  Project Wildlife- environmental science curriculum.
  • 2014 Minneapolis Garden Award from Metro Blooms - We have two school gardens and a rain garden.
  • 2014 Reward School, 2013 Celebration School
  • Partnerships: MN National Wildlife Refuge, MN Department of Natural Resources, St. Catherine University: Eco STARs, Junior Achievement, Midwest Food Connection and the Farm to School program.
  • Technology: Promethean Smart boards & document cameras in every classroom; one computer lab, three mobile iPad computer lab, audio enhancement system in all classrooms.
  • Teachers: Experienced and stable teachers provide rigor with curriculum by differentiated learning activities; small-group guided reading groups based on individual needs; staff meet weekly in study groups to focus on literacy, writing and math.
  • Reading Corps: Reading tutors for kindergarten through third-grade students
  • Math Corps: Math tutors for fourth- and fifth-grade students
  • Specialists: STEM, Art, Music, Physical Education and Media
  • Strong parent involvement: Active PTA and Site Council

OUR MISSION:  To provide an environment where children can develop to their fullest academic, social, emotional, and physical potential.  Our school fosters a multicultural, gender fair and disability- aware attitude of acceptance encouraging everyone to be a productive global citizen.

EXTENDED-DAY ACTIVITIES: GEMS/GISEEveryday Leaders, Mad Science, Go Solar, Spanish,  Acting, Chess, Art Builders,  Lego Club, News Reporting, Film Making, Cub Scouts, Hockey, Team Sports, and we also have a Minneapolis Kids child care program on site. ALC (Area Learning Center) academic support classes.
