MIDDLE SCHOOL: Students in sixth through eighth grades loop with teachers for the three years of middle school, with a seven-period day. The teaching team includes 10 teachers who work with almost 180 students for core classes and advisory. Other staff members (EL, literacy, Special Education) collaborate to meet the needs of our students. Time is structured with daily 55-minute classes to enhance student achievement, including elective and specialist classes. Our first-hour class is an advisory that engages students in activities to help them establish meaningful relationships, explore personal strengths and needs, develop practical student techniques and prepare for the rigors of high school. We value parents as partners. Parents receive progress reports six times a year, in addition to conferences.

Advisory program provides every adolescent with an advisor who supports and advocates for that student throughout the middle grade years - starting the day off with a first hour. During this time, Responsive Classroom Circle of Respect occurs, as well as a once-weekly focus on Second Step, which is social skills curriculum.  Exploratory days for middle school students occur throughout the year - students have an opportunity to choose their course for that day.

EXTENDED-DAY ACTIVITIES: Minneapolis Kids child care; after-school youth activities such as arts, athletics, educational and recreational after-school programs, student council; evening Community Education courses for youth and adults
