SPECIALTY FOCUS:
Hmong International Academy (HIA) is a prekindergarten through eighth grade culturally specific school, providing students with daily opportunities to engage in activities that enhance understanding of the Hmong culture and language. We are located on the north side of Minneapolis.

We are focused on increasing student achievement in both reading and math. Students learn to read and write in English. Students in kindergarten through fifth grade participate in the workshop model in both reading and math. Our kindergarten through fifth-grade teachers are fully implementing Readers Workshop, a balanced literacy approach. These teachers use the Investigations curriculum to guide the work of a standards-based math program. Every grade level devotes time each day to social studies, science and health.

EXTENDED-DAY ACTIVITIES: Community Education classes, reading/math classes, art club, Gateway to Technology, middle school sports, student leadership, Beacons
