MAGNET FOCUS: Emerson Spanish Immersion offers an academically based dual language immersion program in which students achieve academically and socially while gaining Spanish and English proficiency during the elementary years when languages are most easily learned and retained.

WE OFFER: Half-Day Pre-kindergarten • English as a Second Language/Bilingual Support • Two-way Language Immersion • Family/Community Involvement Opportunities • Math and Reading Individual Enrichment • Schoolwide Anti-Bullying and Social Skills Program • Parent-Involved Leadership • After-School ALC Program/Tutoring • Band • Free Weekend Food Program • Travel to a Spanish-Speaking Country (fourth and fifth graders; fee-based, with fundraising support)

  • Classroom morning meetings begin each day as a way to promote student academic and social success while building a strong sense of community
  • Pre-kindergarten through first-grade students begin their learning by receiving 90 percent of their instruction in Spanish and 10 percent of their instruction in English; this allows students to develop a strong foundation in Spanish on which they can build throughout their elementary years
  • In second through fifth grades, English learning gradually begins to increase with the Spanish/English ratio culminating at 50/50 in fifth grade
  • The goal for all students is to be bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English
  • Fifth grade students continue in sixth through eighth grades their immersion experience by following the pathway to the Anwatin Middle School IB/Dual Language Immersion program.
  • Schoolwide social skills program featuring monthly themes promotes positive social skills development for all students
  • Self-paced computer programs, such as ST Math, provide additional learning while offering immediate student feedback helping to monitor academic growth through the year; these web-based programs are easily accessed from any location - home, community or school
  • STEM Pathways opportunities for students in 4th and 5th grades
  • Fourth and fifth-grade students have an opportunity to travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico, every two years to use their bilingual skills while exploring the richness of life in a Spanish-speaking location
  • Strong parental and community support offer family fun activities, fundraising and classroom support through the year
  • Community organizations provide free weekend food program, free dental care, school supplies, clothing and food items to our families
