Community Connections

To ensure that every MPS student thrives and maximizes her/his potential, the Student Placement Team seeks to establish and deepen connections with students, families, MPS faculty and staff as well as the greater community. You’ll find us connecting with peers in our schools; greeting prospective students at outreach events throughout the City, and taking pride in how we counsel families who are selecting schools. While it’s important that we strive for full and balanced schools, we also want to build a mutually respectful relationship with the community and emphasize how community connection benefits everyone.

MPS Office of Communications, Engagement & External Relations

The Office of Communications, Engagement & External Relations is proud to partner with students, families and the greater community to ensure the best possible education for all our children.

Northside Achievement Zone (NAZ)

The Northside Achievement Zone exists to permanently close the achievement gap and end generational poverty in North Minneapolis. Together with our partner organizations, we are walking side by side with low-income families as they put their children on a path to college.

College Possible

College Possible Minnesota is coaching low-income students to and through college.

Beacons

Minneapolis Beacons engages youth as leaders and learners by transforming schools into active youth centers afterschool and in the summer, providing free high quality educational, recreational, and leadership development activities opportunities to nearly 4,000 kindergarten–12th grade youth and their families at our 11 Beacons Centers located in neighborhoods in North, Northeast, and South Minneapolis.
